Better Together: The Veronicas of Veronica Beard
How did you pick your nail color combination?
Both: It’s the perfect combination of red and pink: feminine, but the V graphic gives it an edge. [Paintbox note: we used Like Blush and Like Desire to create this manicure.]
In one word, how does a manicure make you feel?
Both: Polished and ready to take on the day!
What’s your earliest nail memory?
VSB: Lee press-on nails!
How did you guys meet? Tell us about your story and how you started your company.
VSB: We met at a wedding in January 2002, the same night I met my husband—and the rest is history! After leaving our careers in finance and fashion to raise our families, we found ourselves at family gatherings talking about our new favorite designers, must-have piece and styling tricks. We both quickly realized there was a void in the market for clothing that you could live in.
VMB: We wanted to create wardrobe MVPs and make it easy for women to get out the door in the morning and look good. Men have it easy. They throw on a suit and tie, and they look polished. That’s why when we launched in 2010, we adapted a men’s suit jacket into the Veronica Beard Dickey Jacket. Women wanted something similar that they could put over everything from jeans to dresses, so we focused on perfecting the jacket and from there, started creating the pieces that we were on the hunt for—a chic top, a cool pair of jeans.
In one word, how would you describe each other?
VMB: Sisters
VSB: Family
What makes you “better together?"
VSB: We would not be where we are today if there weren’t two of us - our two perspectives are what make this brand so unique and genuine. While, we don’t always agree on every minute decision or design detail, we are always aligned on the big picture and having each other makes our successes that much more rewarding.
Three things you’re into right now?
VMB: I’m into styling hair and makeup to complement my outfits. I love the Glen plaid pant suit from our Fall 2020 runway collection and the Darya Sequin Jacket from Spring 2020.
VSB: The Goldie cover-up jacket, leopard print (on everything) and a great statement coat—outerwear is the first thing anyone sees, so make that first impression count.
How do you press reset and relax?
VMB: Spending time with my kids.
VSB: With my family!
