Nails of New York: Kate Foley Osterweis
This week's Nails of New York features Kate Foley, creative consultant and stylist, who is sporting our latest black-and-white manicure that we created with online beauty destination Violet Grey. Formerly a buyer for Opening Ceremony, Kate proves invaluable to both fashion and lifestyle brands alike, where she consults, models, art directs, and curates some of the most exciting content and product developments across the fashion industry.
Consistently photographed wearing enviable styles and crystal accessories, Kate is also one of the kindest and most approachable women in fashion (and beyond!). Read on to learn about Kate's favorite skin and nail products, how she maintains her beauty routines in the midst of bicoastal travels, and her newfound adoration of the beauty industry.
In one word, how does a mani make you feel?
Polished.
When do you notice your nails the most and why?
All of the time. It's important to me that I make sure my hands look polished, as I'm always in meetings with clients. I tend to get a manicure every one to two weeks.
Favorite polish shade?
Worst beauty mistake?
Once on a trip to Paris, I made the mistake of getting a pedicure at my hotel and was mortified when I got the bill.
What are some of your favorite beauty brands?
I love Tata Harper and Tracie Martyn. Both are natural beauty brands that have incredible products that really work.
How has beauty evolved for you?
I recently switched to using only natural cosmetics, which I thought would be a huge challenge, but it's actually been pretty easy as there are so many incredible brands out there. I feel so much better knowing that I'm more thoughtful when it comes to my skincare and products.
How did you first get into fashion consulting?
I worked for lots of different great stylists like Charlotte Stockdale and then as a buyer at Opening Ceremony. When I left my position as a buyer, it felt really natural to start working directly with brands and retailers–so I launched my own consultancy business.
Who have been some of your clients you've worked with?
Most recently, I'm really proud of the work done with chief creative officer Jonathan Saunders for Diane Von Furstenberg and of a vintage collection launched on Vertiaire Collective with Chloë Sevigny.
What is your favorite thing about the fashion industry?
The incredible creativity that is at the heart of it all.
