Nails of New York (Mother's Day Edition): Charlotte of The Fashion Guitar

Tell us about your kids

My son James, 11, is a pre-teen. Then there’s Stella, my nine year old. And finally, Teddy, our 15 month old who’s the light of our lives.

How did you choose your nail look?

I just finished moving apartments, so after all the wear on my nails, they're very short. I needed a refresh, something simple and clean, so I chose this barely-there French manicure using the gel match for Paintbox's new spring color, "Like Crème."

What’s the most rewarding part of motherhood?

My kids bring me so much joy — their smiles, their funny questions, their stories, their personalities. It’s different at every age; Teddy is only 15 months but he smothers me with kisses. My kids make me want to be a better person and be the best version of myself to give them a good example.

What’s a challenge in motherhood that you weren’t expecting?

Balancing my own career with my children. You have to master the art of planning and organizing, push through the tiredness and stress. As long as your kids don’t feel like it’s because of them. It’s good to teach them how to balance things and not be too overwhelmed. I take it step by step; I remember to breathe. Sometimes I have to cancel plans, and that’s okay.

Who are the role models or supporters in your life that inspire you?

Lots of people inspire me. My friends inspire me, everyone in NYC that makes it work, and other women in the industry who already do it. Us moms need to stick together.

What are your favorite things to do with your kids?

It’s the simple things, like today we had a late start and went for breakfast together and just chatted. I love the little bits of quality time every day, family time in CT on the weekends, dinners together, etc.

Any special rituals with your kids?

We’re very routine in our day-to-day life. We’re all about simple routines that make life easier. We wake up at 6 a.m. We do bath time after dinner, which is when we all come together, then homework, and then watch TV with the older two before bed. We also have our holiday rituals, of course.

Favorite ways to take time for yourself?

Obviously, getting my nails done at Paintbox, but over the past two years I’ve started taking my skincare routine very seriously. My morning skincare is fast but my nighttime routine I take very seriously and put in a lot of effort. I’ve also started getting a little Botox occasionally, and I love being open about it on my social media. I think it’s important to be transparent about it and show that no one is perfect.

I also love eating healthy, drinking a lot of water, walking a lot in NYC, and the kids keep me active. Plus, date nights remind you that it’s important to keep dating.
